
Women often suffer from chest pains in different forms, but rarely give it a serious thought. Most women in the pre menopausal stage are under the misconception that they do not need worry about heart disorders and hence do not treat the chest pains as a warning to underlying problems. The nerve system and blood vessel distribution in the body is complex and a pain in the chest could signal an underlying complexity.
The symptoms of a chest pain include
1. Gripping, tearing or stretching feeling in the heart.
2. Dizziness with occasional blackouts.
3. Mild chest pain, with palpitation
4. Sweaty palms with difficulty in breathing
5. Constriction of the esophagus with difficulty in swallowing
6. Indigestion
7. Fatigue accompanied by chills, nausea and vomiting
8. Anxiety, paleness and bluish discoloration of the lips.
A chest pain is a bigger scare post menopause as the estrogen level decreases, increasing the chances of heart diseases. The chest discomfort may be fatal or non –fatal.
Fatal- There are times when the effects of a heart disorder may be fatal, and its time to summon medical help. The fatal effects include
1. Heart failure- Also known as the congestive heart failure, it occurs due to damage of heart muscle. The damage in the muscle results in decrease in circulation of blood in the body. This occurs if the body was suffering from hypertension, heart valve disorders, arrhythmias or cardiomyopathy.
2. Embolism- means a blockage of an artery or blood vessels which could be due to arthrosclerosis, arterial fibrillation, renal vein thrombosis, air embolism etc.
3. Stroke – Also called as cerebrovascular accident, it occurs due to disruption of blood supply to the brains which can cause death of the brain cells. This may lead to permanent or serious complications, and in extreme conditions may cause death.
4. Cardiac arrhythmias- During this condition, the heart beats out of rhythm with the beats being irregular, too fast, too slow or cease beating. In the case it ceases beating or slows down, it may cause death of the woman.
5. Lung Collapse- This occurs when there is imbalance in the pressure balance of the lungs due to which the lung cannot contract. This can deprive the body of oxygen and may cause death.
